Those poor women! Oh yes. Raised in a prejudiced environment, they couldn't see the beauty and joie de vivre that this picture so beautifully reflects in children with red hair and freckles. Or did they? At least they felt sorry for the child - in other words, they showed compassion. Red-haired children don't need pity! But maybe these women were good mothers, loving and encouraging their children.

Today we smile at the narrow-mindedness of that time. Rightly so? Are we better today?

There is much to say. But let's just enjoy the consistently positive feelings this picture evokes in us. Thank you for that.
