**Patricia Polacco** (Patricia Barber Polacco; 1944 – ) is an author and illustrator from the USA. She is known for her distinctive art style, which is easily recognisable due to her choice of medium: usually marking pens and pencils. She also uses a variety of techniques and materials, including pencil drawings, markers, acrylic paints, ink, or some other medium. Her illustrations fit the style of the book; for instance, a book with a serious subject might have photorealistic drawings and muted colours. Polacco’s stories often involve meaningful interactions between young and old people as well as an intermingling of different cultures. Her work emphasises diversity, a reflection of both her own multicultural family and her experiences growing up.
