**Kerry James Marshall** (1955 – ) is a painter from the USA, renowned for his works that explore the experiences of his country’s African diaspora and the narratives of their national history from which they have been excluded. Marshall uses a bold, vivid style, employing elements of collage, mural-sized installations, and traditional canvas paintings to challenge the marginalisation of the African diaspora in the USA in visual culture. His art is a powerful commentary on race, society, and identity.
