The Lithuanian vilkatas or vilkalakis, Latvian vilkatis or vilkacis, is the Baltic werewolf, related to the Russian volkulak and Slovene vołkodlȃk (among other related Slavic words).
The words vilkalakis, volkulak, and vołkodlȃk come from a common ancestor where the first half means wolf, and the second half means hide, skin, or hair, similar to Old Norse ulfheðinn (wolf, sleeveless shirt with a hood).
They did not have an intermediate form that's been popularized by movies.
From what I can remember, they were not very nice individuals. 😄
