The little folk are traditionally the smaller fae/supernatural creatures both in power and in stature (some call all of them little folk and use terms like Fae and little folk interchangeably). Humans that can see them and that help them are often thought of as friends. But oftentimes any attention gotten from the fae can turn foul, so if you decide to befriend them best be careful to never offend (or thank) them.

The Goddess Psyche was the goddess of the soul. She was born a mortal woman and her beauty rivaled Aphrodite (some say more beautiful some say mistaken for her). 

Aphrodite sends her son Eros (Cupid) to make her fall in love with someone hideous instead Eros falls in love with her and marries her but under the condition that she must never see his face. Of course she eventually looks and he feels betrayed and goes crying to his mom. 
Thus Aphrodite gives Psyche 4 trials and she completes them but Persephone gives some of her death in a box instead of her beauty so Psyche dies. But Eros moved by her actions saves her and she becomes the Goddess of the Soul. They have a daughter Hedone, Goddess of physical pleasure (think hedonism or hedonistic).
