Oh you’ve been busy! This one stands out for me! I think the graphite works best for this kind of image, where you are capturing an emotional reaction in the eyes and wisdom in the expression. Perhaps it’s just the lovely detail in the lines and wrinkles on the aging face, but I prefer this to the exuberant smile for the pencil drawing treatment.

Most of what you see this evening, excepting Emma, was crafted very late last night/early this morning.  I couldn't sleep yet did not wish to think of what was keeping me awake.  These recent images are a result of a deep, almost trance-like, creative state.  

The pencil, charcoal or pen & ink portraits I have always enjoyed most have been so-called *character* portraits.  You've seen more than a few of these here at the Cafe.  

I have worked with this particular model often enough to recognize when I am seeing the work of it's maker shining through.  The subject may or may not be within her works but the style here certainly is. Although I'll leave it to Poppy to correct me.  

Either way, I agree with you that the lines which life draws upon us through our journeys make for more interesting viewing.  

My favourite works over the years are along similar lines. They’ve never made it into any of my folio galleries because they are framed and on walls around the place or gifted to friends and family. I only started to use water colours in 2021, prior to that the bulk of my artwork was drawing, in pencil, charcoal or pen and ink. My favourite works of yours are those where the character can be seen written in their eyes or etched onto their face. Maybe this is why men’s faces and older people have always appealed.
