The term "Lotus Eater' originates from Greek mythology, specifically Homer's epic poem, "The Odyssey".
In the story, Odysseus and his crew encounter a race of people called the Lotus-eaters on an island.
These people subsisted on the lotus plant, which had a narcotic effect, causing a state of blissful forgetfulness and apathy.
Those who ate the lotus lost all desire to return home and longed only to remain with the Lotus-eaters, indulging in their dreamy, carefree existence.
