James Thatcher. Detective for the Blackmoor Police Department. I was born on a farm outside or east Fartown. But we weren’t really farmers, we were tenants on our land, a land owned by the corporations.

Ghosts of our ancestors who had owned the land for hundreds of years, lost to copyright crops and crooked lawyers. The law was never made to protect us. We weren’t generational farmers, we were just pebbles in the heels of giants.

I had dreams, big dreams, of seeing the world. Changing it. At 18, as bright eyed naive kid, I was gleefully recruited into the military. By 19, I was part of the Orbital Drop Defense Force. I spent more time jumping out of planes than being in them. At the end of my ten year stint, I ended up stationed at Blackmoor, and like most everyone else in this city, never left. 

After the military, I joined the BPD. I figured if I couldn’t change the world, I could at least settle for changing the city. 

I should’ve known changing the world would have been easier.

Elizabeth Sidow. What’s there to say? The only child to the Foundry district Kingpin, Henrick Sidow. True to Henrick’s style, he kept his cards to his chest, and his family, well, he didn’t even bring them to the table. 

She was often seen in her father’s own club, ironically named The Tower, and she was the proverbial princess locked away inside it. 

Not much else is known about Elizabeth. She wasn’t seen in public often, and when she was, she had a small platoon of highly trained killers escorting her everywhere she went. 

How the hell she wound up dead outside my favorite bodega? I’m not sure I want to know. Even less so, as to why she had my address in her hand when she was killed.
