Again that strange disturbing noise, 
I heard it from behind the door, 
Which seemingly has stayed shut for an age.

The master of the house, 
When selling it to me, did pass
On what was hidden there, no sage.

He seemed to me a weird old man,
His face, oh how forlorn it span,
Locks gray did poke out from his hood's recess. 

It hid his face in shadow's grip,
Of voice deprived since birth's first sip,
He rasped, I barely grasped his croak's excess.

- Might there a key to it exist?
But without trace he did desist,
When I looked back he'd gone as in a blink.

"A boor," I thought, but never mind, 
Tomorrow I will search to find,
No point in fussing now, I wanna sleep.

But as I tried to sleep that night, 
The noise persisted in my plight,
Behind it someone clearly wished get out.

The words I couldn't understand,
I'd have to break it with my hands,
"What devil's work is this?" I raged and shouted.

My lantern's flame did shake and quiver,
As I walked deeper through the shiver,
- Hey! Who goes there? I ask you make a sound!

A hinge did creak and sway aloft,
A skeleton, its neck oft clasped, 
Hung in a noose, midst cobwebs all around.

Long dead for many years gone by,
In antique garb its frame did lie,
Locks gray did poke out from its hood's recess.

- The master here alone should dwell,
And I need rest, so hear my knell!
Its empty sockets stared at my distress.

I fled in haste down winding stairs,
"A boor!" it shouted in glares,  
The door slammed shut, my exit route it blocked.

- For two centuries I was alone,
Since then no living soul has shown!
Quite cozy in a noose, you'll get used to it!
