A thought I had:
Perhaps dreams are the souls of the past that wait in the ether. At the apex of humanity, when technology is at its limit, those souls will be drawn from that ether and placed into eternal bodies. All except for the wicked. The creator gave us the keys to own value judgements by making us, literally, the ones who will judge ourselves. We are our own god.
