“You aren’t going to ignore me all night, are you?”

I look back at her, incredulous. “Yep. You brought your dog,” I answer, jerking my thumb at the clipped guy eating most of the sushi like an ass. And chatting up any asses near him. Ass. “Well, he’s ignoring me, too.” Her eyes work as well as mine, and she doesn’t have to turn her head to see just how wide he thinks the buffet here might be. “Probably because you blend in with the couch.” What is with this party? “Not a first for me, if you’ll recall.” She tries to look bored, alluring, and vulnerable all at the same time. It’s a trademark move of hers. “Does it feel good, knowing what he’s doing over there?” She asks. “No,” I reply. “But it feels like justice.”
