She has watched over this sky long enough that the sunset no longer surprises her, the same gold, the same fading light, the same quiet held between one day and the next. Some things return often enough that you stop counting them as endings.

The castle across the clouds is where she comes from, not her destination, her origin. She left it behind long ago, the way you leave a childhood home: still visible from far enough away, never quite out of sight. She stands where she stands because someone has to, sword grounded, wings settled, watching the horizon the way old sentinels do, not for danger exactly, just in case.
