The Heart of Steel 4

He took apart his chest plate and removed his artificial heart. It was a metal device that pumped blood through his veins, but it had no feeling or emotion. He replaced it with a battery that powered his systems. He then took his heart and modified it with his tools. He added wires and circuits, lights and sounds, sensors and switches. He made it into a device that could sense Claire's presence and mood, that could light up and play music when she was near, that could vibrate and pulse when she touched it.

He wrapped it in a red cloth and put it in a wooden box. He gave it to Claire on their anniversary, telling her that it was his heart, that he was giving it to her as a sign of his love.
