In 3627, the VanWinder Trek was unveiled as a groundbreaking commercial spacecraft for orbital travel. Its immense, whale-like structure, however, quickly earned it the derisive nickname “The Whale.” Despite the Trek’s cutting-edge DamaWheel propulsion system—an ingenious fusion of technological precision and the natural magic coursing through Portus—the ship’s unsightly design became its downfall.

Though capable of reliable orbital maneuvers, the Whale’s bloated, cumbersome appearance repelled potential passengers and investors alike. What was intended as an icon of progress became an object of public scorn. The engineers behind the project had focused too heavily on function, disregarding aesthetics, and as a result, the spacecraft never made it past its test flights. The failure of the VanWinder Trek proved that even with advanced technology, appearances matter, and the ugliness of the "Whale" was simply too much for Portus society to overlook.
