Depending on the species of bat, the young stay with the mother from a few months to nine months for vampire bats. Vampire bats drink milk from their mothers for nine months before switching over to blood. There are only three species of vampire bats. Two of those species only go after avian blood. The common vampire bat is the only one that takes mammalian blood and usually from livestock not people. Stop clear cutting the forests for livestock and agriculture and the common vampire bats will leave everybody alone.
