Value : Argents are the second most valuable unit of currency in Nyrin but are the most used and thus the most abundant. Each argent is worth one-tenth of an aurum or ten cupras.

Composition : Each argent is minted in Stirling Silver, as pure silver was found to be too soft to be used reliably as a form of currency. Also, it was found that pure silver was prone to reacting with different inert chemicals found throughout Nyrin, thus forming sulfide compounds on the surface of the pure silver coin. This caused the coins to degrade in clarity faster than desired. Stirling Silver was implemented to remedy this as well as the hardness. Below is the compositional breakdown of each argent currently in circulation.

Silver : Approximately 93%

Copper : Approximately 7%

Coin Dimensions :

Diameter : .79 inches (20 millimeters)

Width : .09 inches (2.48 millimeters)

Weight : .14 ounces (3.9 grams)

Description : The argent is slightly smaller than the aurum in diameter, slightly thicker, but with only half the weight of the aurum overall. It is the second most valuable form of currency behind the aurum but is the most used and most abundant form of currency across all of Nyrin.

Obverse Side (Heads) : On the obverse side of every argent three heads of wheat are displayed within a smooth circle surrounded by a thin raised textile ring.

Reverse Side (Tails) : On the reverse side of each argent is an image interpretation of the mouth of the Myre Mine, where most of the silver within Nyrin is mined from. Above the image are the words “From prosperity,” and below the image is the word “Growth” creating the phrase “From prosperity, growth”.

Edges : Reeded (grooves)

Additional Information :

Displayed on the obverse side of each argent is three pieces of wheat, this was chosen as the main export from the plains of Nyrin is wheat. Nyrin is home to one of the world’s largest breadbaskets and provides much of the grain for other regions.

While the argent is not the most valuable denomination of currency within Nyrin, it is by far the most used and most produced. When one goes to market it is likely that most things will be priced with these in mind unless the product in question is very cheap or extremely expensive. Most inhabitants within Nyrin carry two-coin pouches, one with aurums and cupras together, and the other exclusively for argents due to their frequent usage.
