In honor of the 1798 Elmira NY Sighting

September 14th 1798, around what is now ELmira NY, 24-25 boys and young men were cutting timber and clearing a small landscape with a "hairy wild man that was caked in mud" and sopping wet, came through a section of uncut timber in to the open area and roared at the troop. Several of the young men fired their muskets at the creature but it just roared at them again, causing the whole lot of young men to take off. Thomas O'Rourke (one of the young men) said "He had to be angry because of the singing we were filling the woods with. His face was ugly like no man I ever had seen."
