French Philosopher and novelist Jean-Jacque Rousseau (1712-78) in his book The Social Contract said: ⭐ 'Man is born free yet everywhere he is in chains'. 

This quote inspires me to ask is ⭐humankind a species of animal that has had their instincts dulled by the domestication afforded by the state? 
   This is my spontaneously generated question and is not indicative of Rousseau's work.

I myself depend on the State for my survival; and indeed prefer co-operation to cut throat competition.
