Ashildr woke up when the TARDIS vwoorped its way back into existence. The book from which she had successfully read two or three chapters before lay on the ground before her, silent, waiting.

At the other side of the control room, Caten gave a happy bark, wagged his fluffy tail, and dashed off as soon as Clara had opened the door. _I'm beginning to sense a pattern and it needs to stop._ she sighed. _Come, let's get our little rascal._

_Right, give me a moment_, Ashildr sighed, _I'll be with you in a second._

The room that opened up beyond the TARDIS' doors welcomed Clara in a very distant, Victorian way. It was warm like a sunny summer day, yet dark and hostile like a dream turned nightmare by a malignant whisper. There were no windows to allow for some light from outside - and if there was a door it was hidden quite masterfully in the darkness.

A few lamps tried to best the darkness from their places at the walls, quite in vain. Shadows flickered over the walls, leaping from one hiding spot to another, predators waiting to strike when their prey had lost sight of them.

The mantelpiece towered over the room. On top of it sat a blind mirror, watching the hall from its dark throne while not letting anyone read its face. It reminded Clara of a sleeping king encased in stone.

Her eyes wandered around the room, suspecting _something_ to emerge from the twilight and strike at her. She turned around once, twice, but the room remained perfectly still and silent. Hesitant, she blinked, but nothing happened. Even the tiny gargoyles in the wall's niches remained motionless. She sighed and relaxed. The darkness swallowed her sigh and everything fell silent again.

_I SHALL BE TOO LATE!_

The gnarled voice pierced the silence. Clara jumped and shrieked, before a white spectre dashed past her. It raced toward the mantelpiece and was gone in a half a heartbeat.

Before she caught herself she noticed that Caten had vanished, too - did he chase after the spectre?

Since there was nowhere else to go, Clara went over to the fireplace. She noticed there was no fire but pitch black darkness. Cautiously squatting down, she examined the darkness. A hole filled to the brim with blackness was lying in wait, beckoning her to jump.

In another moment, Clara went down after the white spectre, not even once considering how she would ever get out again.
