This is a song about the Mississippi River Flood in the early 1900s. It was because of this flood that my grandfather was employed to help rebuild the levee along the Mississippi River. He and my grandmother lived in a house tent and moved as the work moved. It was while working in this levee that my uncle was born, my grandfather became ill with what was then a mysterious illness, later identified as likely to be Hepatitis C. They also had a tent fire that destroyed all of their belongings except one wooden rolling pin that was scorched black in one spot and my grandmother's Singer Sewing machine. My family members still have both items to this day. 
When the Levee Breaks was written and originally recorded in 1929 by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie. It was reworked and recorded by Led Zepplin.
