Queen Ingreed VI Diamonds

As all five Ingreeds who had come before her—and most other Queens of Diamonds, in fact—had been selfish and greedy women who thought of nothing but what shiny object they might get into their pockets next, Ingreed VI vowed that her reign would end greed forever. She demanded that all her subjects withdraw all their money and put it in enormous piles in her courtyard, where she set fire to the lot of it, and brought about such a pyrotechnics show that the other three Queens, looking out their windows, could see the glow in the sky. Once all this was done, Ingreed took off her crown, which had been a family heirloom for well over ten thousand years, and dropped it down a treacle well. I cannot bear to speak too much ill of Ingreed, for her intentions were so pure, but the fact remains that for many years after in the Diamondlands, people could only get their bread and milk by asking very nicely for it, and for the most part, people simply had whatever they had.
