He had been lying in the tall grass for three days, barely moving, barely breathing. His rifle was his only companion, his scope his only window to the world. He was a sniper, one of the best in the business, and he had a job to do.
But the contact never showed up.
He waited for hours, scanning the faces of the pedestrians and the cars on the street. He saw nothing out of the ordinary, nothing that indicated a trap or a betrayal. He wondered if the contact had been caught, or killed, or simply changed his mind. He wondered if he should abort the mission, or wait for another day.
He began to doubt himself, his contact, and his agency. He began to question his purpose, his morality, and his sanity. He began to feel hungry, thirsty, and tired. He began to lose hope.
He wondered if anyone cared.
He wondered if it was worth it.

Was it worth it? He has a mission.
A mission of good is always worth it although desolate at times.
I really like how your art zeros in on his position , just as if he was the in the scope.
Masterful how the grass is blurred slightly around him.
