Bharatanatyam

Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest classical dance forms in India, originating from Tamil Nadu. It was originally performed in temples as an expression of devotion to the gods. Bharatanatyam combines 'bhava' (expression), 'raga' (melody), 'tala' (rhythm) and 'natya' (dramatic art) into a harmonious whole.

It is characterized by precise footwork, elegant hand gestures (mudras) and expressive facial expressions that tell stories from Hindu epics such as the Mahabharata or Ramayana. Dancers wear magnificent costumes, gold jewelry and striking makeup to emphasize the symbolic power of the movements.

Bharatanatyam is more than dance - it is a spiritual experience that celebrates the unity of body, mind and soul. It symbolizes the fusion of tradition and art in perfect beauty.
