Despite my reservations, my classmate went a step further and offered to collaborate on a poem together. During a break between lessons, we hastily composed a poem, but even then, I hesitated to contribute fully, convinced of my friend's serious talent. Undeterred, he encouraged me to try writing something on my own whenever I found the time.

When I returned home, I remained convinced that this venture would end in complete failure. However, I decided to put myself to the test. Filled with certainty about my own inability to write anything independently, I took a different approach: translating songs. Translating required less originality since everything had already been created for you.

I chose the song "Raised By Bats!" by the American dark cabaret artist Aurelio Voltaire, whom I actively listened to at the time (and still do). I endeavored to translate it into Russian, marking my very first experience with poetry. Both my friend and I were pleased with the result (which I keep, but won't publish, because that's kinda useless). From that point forward, I began translating English songs into Russian. Gradually, I started composing my own short poems, predominantly within the dark genre and inspired by myths and legends (though most of them are now lost to me).

An unexpected turning point arrived in February 2022 when I stumbled upon the channel Even Blurry Videos - a channel of an English teacher from Tallinn (native a russian) performs covers of Russian rock songs in English. At that moment, I decided to attempt my first translation not from English, but INTO English. To my surprise, it turned out... relatively decent, though I now cringe at that early attempt.

Nonetheless, it marked the beginning of a new phase: poetry in English. By September of the same year, I gradually began writing poetry in English. Among my first compositions were "The Tired Wanderer", "The Curse of the Southern Cliff", and "Frigate of Harlingen."

In October 2022, I joined the NightCafe. Initially, I created artwork to accompany my poems and translations without sharing them publicly. However, to get credits for more pictures, I started publishing my creations here. And now, in August 2023, I'm still here, creating for and owing my artistic growth to the support and encouragement I receive from all of you. Thank you all for all this wonderful heartwarming support whenever you joined me - months ago or yesterday. I truly appreciate all your kind words, my old and new friends^^

And was taken in by creatures of the night!

Some history of me growing into an amateur poet.

For the majority of my life, I viewed myself as devoid of artistic talent, a person completely lacking in creativity. Whether it was drawing, music, or poetry, I firmly believed that these endeavors were beyond my reach. I had sealed off this realm from my own possibilities.

However, everything changed in the spring of 2019. I had a classmate who possessed a remarkable gift for writing romantic poems. These verses were only shared among close friends, and one day, he graciously shared a couple of them with me. As someone who admired any form of creativity in others, I was genuinely thrilled. Nevertheless, I still considered it an inaccessible domain for myself.
