JEANNE D'ARC (1412 - 1431) was a French national heroine, a peasant woman who claimed to have received divine visions to lead French troops against the English during the Hundred Years' War. His leadership led to the liberation of Orléans and the coronation of King Charles VII in Reims, marking a decisive turning point. She was captured, tried for heresy and condemned to the stake in 1431.
