Sgàthaich

My favourite of all the Celtic Gods, Sgàthaich (The Shadowy One) ran a warrior training school on the Isle of Skye (named after her) - the second largest of the Hebridean Islands. In Celtic culture, only men could teach women the arts of war and only women could teach men. One of her charges was the legendary Cú Chulainn, to whom she gifted his famous barbed spear- the Gae Bulg. Upon her death, Sgàthaich ascended to the gods, but her task was not done. It became her duty to collect the souls of fallen warriors from the battlefield, and transport them on her boat to the Summerlands. If she happened across any lost, wandering souls on her travels, and deemed them worthy, she would allow them aboard. Ask Sgàthaich to help you find courage when you need it most, but treat her with the reverence she deserves, lest you be deemed unworthy!
