At some point, just like Remedios the Beautiful -- a character in one of her absolute favorite novels, "One Hundred Years of Solitude" -- she began to feel funny and realized that she was too beautiful for this world and would soon ascend into the heavens.

She was flabbergasted. She tried to tell her parents, but they did not take her seriously.

And it really happened. One afternoon, right after she finished reading a collection of short stories by Poppy Z. Brite, while folding the sheets she felt as if she were flaking, as if she were losing texture.

Her hair turned very white, whiter than the freshly laundered sheets, and one half of her body began to flake off into little confetti that fluttered toward the fluffy clouds that raced across the sky propelled by the wind.

And so Sabine transcended reality, and from then on no one saw her again.
