Maero

The Maero are the largest humanoid beings within the Fae Isles. These hulking individuals are recognized with either gray or green skin, a head of wild black hair, pronounced lower incisors, and long spindly fingers. In the older tales, they are described as vicious and savage, but this has been reviewed as a product of the time.

When the Patupaiarehe began to establish civilizations throughout the isles, the Maero were either pushed to the center of the islands or brought into the growing cities as laborers. Some Maero still holds the Patupaiarehe in contempt for their forced immigrations and are often suspicious of any changes that draw new lines of territory.

As a creature of the Fey Isles, they have a peculiar connection with their own true names. It is vital that the Maero uses a pseudonym when dealing with races other than other Maero. Should a creature learn a Maero’s true name, the Maero could spontaneously calcify.
