This is a lovely sunset! It's my understanding that impressionist artists were big on these.

Thank you. 💗  yes, I did a bit of research yesterday because I was clueless about this style. Landscapes and catching "moments" like above. It gave me a very nostalgic feel. 

A tiny interesting anecdote - when impressionist artists first came out with these paintings (I believe around the late1800s) they were met with hatred and accusations of unfinished works. The bright colors and landscapes were apparently a bit of a shock to the style of painting at the time.

Just something I found interesting. I'm thankful to have found this site & community. It has helped me express my creativity in a way that I could not on paper but putting ideas in words has made a whole new world open up for me. :)

The one I'm most especially aware of is Manet's "The Absinthe Drinker" which sparked controversy based on its subject matter and depiction of an unsophisticated figure generally not depicted in art at that time. Consequently, in my own challenge submission, I aimed to include glasses of absinthe.

I concur with you about how grateful I am to have discovered NC and the lovely userbase that populates it. I'm happy to have a simple means of giving an untold number of ideas and concepts a visual form with little-to-no proper artistic training or background, and I'm thrilled to find an audience with which to share it all.
