Screen print by Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol (Andrew Warhola; 1928 – 1987) was an artist from the USA, and a leading figure in the visual art movement known as Pop Art. Warhol's work explores the relationship between artistic expression, culture, and advertisement that flourished by the 1960s. He is best known for his silkscreen prints, notably of Marilyn Monroe and Campbell's soup cans, which epitomise his standardised, mass-production techniques. His art, which varied from hand painting to photography to film, famously questioned the banality and consumption of the capitalist society. Warhol's approach has profoundly influenced contemporary art and culture, cementing his legacy as a pioneer of Pop Art.
