On August 27, 800 A.D., The Lost Walls of Benin, built around Benin City in present-day Nigeria, stretched over 16,000 kilometers, making them one of the largest pre-colonial structures in Africa.
Constructed from 800 AD, these walls served as defense and a symbol of the Benin Kingdom's power. Though much was destroyed during the British Punitive Expedition of 1897, the remaining fragments are recognized as a vital part of Nigeria's cultural heritage.
