Ambrosius Bosschaert

Ambrosius Bosschaert (Ambrosius Bosschaert de Oude, the Elder; 1573 – 1621) was a Dutch painter renowned for his exquisite Dutch Golden Age still life paintings, particularly his detailed and vibrant depictions of flowers. Bosschaert's work is characterised by its meticulous attention to detail, bright colour palette, and harmonious compositions. He primarily used oil on panel, creating works that combined scientific accuracy with artistic beauty. Bosschaert is considered a pioneer of floral still life painting, and his art reflects the Dutch Golden Age's fascination with nature, botany, and the precision of realistic depiction. His sons Ambrosius (de Jonge, the Younger), Johannes and Abraham followed in their father's footsteps.
