Willi Baumeister

Willi Baumeister (1889 – 1955) was a German painter, set designer, and typographer, recognised as a key figure in the development of abstract art in the 20th century. His art style evolved from early Expressionism influences to a more refined form of abstraction, characterised by geometric forms, bold colours, and a dynamic sense of space. Baumeister primarily used oil paints and mixed media on canvas, employing a technique that balanced abstraction with a deep understanding of form and structure. His work is associated with the Constructivism and Abstract movements, where he played a significant role in advancing modernist principles in both art and design.
