Poem I wrote for a friend

A Tree Grows

A tree grows
     in the quiet depths of your soul;
     here it abides, concealed within,
     hidden to all but you.

A tree grows
     in the time and space
     you seek out
     desiring spirit renew.

A tree grows
as day vanishes into day, and
     nights grow o’er the year
     all blending to accrue.

A tree grows
     roots deepen with every breath,
     guiding you inward, claiming
     your life’s askew.

A tree grows
     new at every meet
     from seed to sapling
     right in front of you.

A tree grows
     o’re the generation
till one day when your world
     with rage does spew.

A tree grows
     as you sit in silence
     no seed, no sprig
     the tree already grew.

A tree grows
     just when you need
     strength, depth and shade,
     your tree already knew.
