Fusion of Space and Time: Until the early 20th century, space and time were considered separate entities. Space was described in terms of locations, shapes, distances, and directions, while time was measured independently. However, with the advent of special relativity, this changed. Hermann Minkowski introduced a geometric interpretation that fused time and the three spatial dimensions into a single four-dimensional continuum known as Minkowski space. In Minkowski space, an event requires three space dimensions and a time dimension for its description. Thus, spacetime unifies space and time.
