Takashi Murakami

Takashi Murakami (1962 – ) is a Japanese contemporary artist, famous for blurring the lines between high and low art. He works in fine arts media (e.g. painting and sculpture) as well as commercial media (e.g. fashion and merchandise), often using acrylic painting on canvas and digital methods. Murakami’s art is noted for its vibrant, cartoonish images and motifs, including flowers and skulls, reflecting the Superflat movement, which he founded to explore the shallowness of consumer culture.
