Utagawa Hiroshige

Utagawa Hiroshige (1797 – 1858) was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, renowned for his exquisite landscape prints. Hiroshige’s art style is characterised by its delicate composition, vibrant colours, and intricate details, capturing the transient beauty of nature. He primarily used woodblock printing techniques, working with materials such as ink and coloured pigments on paper. His work is associated with the Edo period and the ukiyo-e movement, where he produced famous series such as The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō and One Hundred Famous Views of Edo. Hiroshige’s ability to depict serene and poetic landscapes has made him one of Japan’s most celebrated artists.
