She stood before the mirror and slowly raised the fabric. First over her head. Then lower тАФ over her mouth. Over her nose. She wrapped it once, loosely, then again, more firmly. Her eyes were still visible. The rest of her was gone.
She stared.
Not at her beauty. Not at imperfections.
She saw space.
She saw a blank where the demand used to be.
The air felt different inside the scarf тАФ quieter, slightly warmer, more her own. She didnтАЩt look oppressed. She looked unfinished.
But strangely, she didnтАЩt feel lost. ...

This is a simple story of a woman choosing to cover herself, but in reality this is a life changing story for many women who are choosing to go modest in a world where it is taught that expose is freedom. Going against the norms is difficult, it also brings with it many changes.
Thought-provoking story. I have a sneaking suspicion the original thinking behind modest dress has been lost and arguably corrupted.
... She feltтАж free?
She whispered to her reflection, half testing the sound:
"If I didnтАЩt show my face anymore... who would I be?"
The question didnтАЩt scare her.
What scared her was how right it felt.
The idea of disappearing тАФ not as erasure, but as refusal.
Refusal to explain.
Refusal to be recognized.
Refusal to be defined by symmetry, contour, approval.
She imagined walking through the city like this. People glancing, maybe judging. But her face would be hers alone. Not for them. Not for anyone. Not even for followers. ...
