Life Is Like a River

Through the land the river runs, gently towards the setting sun. Its surface disappears from view, winding on to places new. Far upstream so small yet eager, flowing fast and full of vigour. Swelling with the fall of rain, twisting over fresh terrain. As it gets to know the land, its course becomes less prone to bend. It carries boats from up and down, supports the needs of all around. A waterway so wide and deep, ferrying traffic while we sleep. A vital artery of trade, its mark upon the earth is made. So it journeys toward the sea, it has become what it could be. It’s lived its life, it’s run its course, and now it must return to source.
