An old man's life, once full and bright,
Turned shadowed when his love took flight.
His world grew dim, he let things slide,
Alone, with only his dog by his side.
No more bills paid, in darkness, he dwells,
But candlelight's warmth softly tells
Of a bond that glows through the gloom,
His dog's love, a light that resumes.
In each flicker, hope's gentle plea,
A loyal friend, his reason to be.
Though his home's cheer is now quite scant,
Their shared love is all they want.
