According to the history, Sumerians created the world's first aquariums.  (aquariums of the ancient Sumerians are not made of glass, but more of a small pond to put fish to make it alive and fresh and breed them so you can consume it later)

It is started as a way to make food fish alive so you can cook it later to a business of actual fishkeeping of ornamental fish. The history starts at around 2500BC, at the Early Dynastic Period, where fish was breed as a way to make more food. It is still done in modern Sumer and this system is called "lal agaam" (𒇲 𒂆𒄠) by the modern Sumerians, this is mostly done by the people from faraway provinces.

Glass aquariums and ornamental fish in modern Sumer was only introduced after WWII by the German traders. The first fish to be introduced in modern Sumer was Endler's livebearer.
