Sea diaries: Today one of our remote drones decided to take itself off on a wander. Something on the fritz in its depth guage caused it to drift up through the thermocline and into the cold zone. I say cold zone, it's all bloody cold. The cold zone is just muchos cold. Anyway, I was despatched to retrieve it. As I punched through into the bone achingly cold upper layers of ocean I was greeted by a swarm of what I can only describe as sea spirits. Wafting in a feathery dance above me they appeared initially quite beautiful. Then one came close and opened its cavernous maw. Lined with row after row of razor teeth it descended towards me. I vented gas, from my stab tanks and my rear end and dropped back to the balmy depths like a stone. We'd be going after the drone in a sub!
