Jan van Scorel

Jan van Scorel (1495 – 1562) was a Dutch artist, who was a prominent figure in the Northern Renaissance. His art style is characterised by its incorporation of Italian Renaissance techniques, such as linear perspective and classical themes, into Northern European art. He primarily used oil paints on panel and canvas, creating works that ranged from religious altarpieces to portraits. His travels to Italy and encounter with the works of Raphael greatly influenced his approach, blending the detailed realism of the Northern tradition with the harmonious compositions of the Italian Renaissance. Van Scorel's contributions significantly advanced the integration of Renaissance ideals in Dutch art.
