The bane of surface and shore, the great beasts that assailed the fishing and oiler craft of Fallow Straits and Outland Sea had senses of a nature most abstract and cruel. They wound unerringly strike and consume the most valuable prey in a region, until both the ecosystem and economy lay in gutted shambles. A Guild oiler's homerig would be attacked again and again until only flaming debris remained, while letting crofters and riggers flee unmolested. A small family homerig, left derelict as the beast smashed the life rafts - a defending father first, or a single struggling child, crushing hope to flavour its meal."
