Winslow Homer

Winslow Homer (1836 – 1910) was an artist from the USA, celebrated for his powerful and evocative depictions of his country’s daily life and landscapes. Homer's style evolved from detailed illustrations to a more fluid and expressive approach in his later watercolours and oil paintings. He is known for his masterful use of light and shadow, as well as his ability to capture the dynamic movement of the sea and the quiet dignity of rural scenes. Homer's technique included both watercolour and oil, often working en plein air to capture the immediacy of his subjects. His work is associated with the Social Realism movement.
