Red Light, Green Light: What Could Have Been

He saw her at the intersection, a flash of red in the sea of grey. She was wearing a leather jacket with her blonde hair flowing in the breeze. She was sitting on a sleek black motorbike, revving the engine impatiently. He wondered what she was like, where she was going, what she was thinking. He felt a strange attraction to her, a curiosity that he couldn’t explain. He imagined what it would be like to talk to her, to get to know her, to ride with her. He imagined a life with her, full of adventure and passion and freedom.

But before he could act on his impulse, the light turned green and she sped away, leaving him behind. He watched her disappear into the traffic, feeling a pang of regret and longing. He realized he would never see her again, never know her name, never have a chance with her. He sighed and continued his walk, wondering what could have been.
