At the dawn of man, Ostirika, god of wisdom hope and victory, gave the people of Kitaia the gifts of thought, learning and foresight, setting them apart from the beasts. And the Kitaiani built icons and temples to the gods, and they worshiped Ostirika first among them. But war came unto Kitaia, and enemies with rival gods ravaged the lands, and the Kitaiani prayed before the icon of Ostirika for hope. For years, decades, centuries they struggled against their enemies. Their people, lands and cities were ravaged. Generations were maimed, starved and enslaved. Crops failed, icons were toppled and many died, noble and base alike. And yet they stood, and fought, and survived. Finally, with their cities in ruins, the last army of Kitaia triumphed against their foes, slaying them to a man. Amidst the rubble, the people worshiped at the feet of the one remaining icon - Ostirika. For it was he who had brought them victory.
