Situs Inversus

Situs Inversus is medical Latin for a human whose body develops as a mirror image. So the heart will be on the right not the left, liver will be on the left not the right, etc. It is perfectly livable - the actual function and tissue quality is normal, just the shapes and positions are mirrored.

This fella up top looks like dog**** frankly, and I wasn’t sure where to go with the title. I figured I’d go for the round bit in the chest being a heart, but realized it’s mirrored - Situs Inversus (think ol’ boy’s got bigger issues though heh)

SI develops when the normal gradients that orient the development of the body in the womb are incorrectly situated. Like there will be one protein that is made on the left aide and one on the right, and they diffuse, such that smooth gradients develop. This is how cells know where they are and thus what they should be in the embryo’s development. But sometimes things get weird, and the wrong chemical is made in each place, reversing the gradient!
