Eugène Grasset

Eugène Grasset (Eugène Samuel Grasset; 1845 – 1917) was a Swiss decorative artist, renowned for his significant contributions to the Art Nouveau movement. Working in Paris, France, during the Belle Époque, Grasset’s diverse creative pursuits spanned various design fields. His artistry was not confined to a single medium; he designed furniture, wallpapers, fabrics, and tapestries, as well as ceramics and jewellery. His decorative pieces, crafted from ivory, gold, and other precious materials, are considered cornerstones of Art Nouveau motifs and patterns. Grasset’s work, particularly his graphic design, reflects influences from his travels to Egypt and his admiration for Japanese art. His designs, which often integrate architectural elements, are characterised by their unique combinations of form, function, and material.
