Doctor Fate

Kent Nelson is the son of Sven Nelson, an archaeologist who discovered the tomb of Nabu, an ancient Egyptian sorcerer (affiliated with the Lords of Chaos and Order).

When his father enters the tomb, Nabu releases a deadly poison which kills him. Then he is overcome with remorse and raises Kent and teaches him all his magical knowledge and will give him a helmet which is actually Nabu's soul. Doctor Fate sees the fate and future of everyone he sees, but cannot know his own.

His telepathic helmet and the amount of knowledge it generates through these encounters gradually drive the owner of the helmet completely crazy. He can fly and is invulnerable to magic. His helmet allows him to converse with Nabu, a powerful mage of ancient Egypt, if not the most powerful. Through this, the wearer of the helmet, chosen by Nabu, has access to an immense library of spells.

He can travel through time, the universe and dimensions and manipulates souls. He is the supreme magician of the DC Universe.
